Marshall Fire Relief Event: The Phoenix Project

The Phoenix Project: A Marshall Fire Relief Event

On Thursday, December 30th 2021, The Marshall Fire tore through the communities in Unincorporated Boulder County, the Town of Superior, and the City of Louisville in Colorado, fueled by 100+ mile-per-hour winds destroying everything in its path.

More than 1000 homes and structures were destroyed, and the families in the fire’s path only had minutes to escape the fire with their lives, and the clothes on their back.  They lost all their material possessions in just minutes.

In response, The Phoenix Project was created in order to take swift action to help these families recover items they lost in the fire.  We teamed up with Chris Sword and his team at RovR Products along with Trent Bush of Artilect Studio.  Our mission was to provide new, quality, outdoor gear and apparel to those impacted community members in order to help them get back to activities they enjoy when they are ready.

As a result, The Phoenix Project was created. An event was and hosted on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Over 1,300 fire victims alongside 100+ volunteers from the local community to help make this event a success.  Special thank you to our non-profit partner, The Flywheel Project, a 501(c)(3) company.

Now what?

The story doesn’t end here.  These families have a challenging journey for months or years ahead and will need continued support from our community.  For more information on how to continue the support those impacted visit:

A Few of the many messages we received from families after the event:

“I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone for the donations to our family when we lost our home in Louisville. There are no apt words to describe how much this meant to us. Your network of volunteers made us feel special during this difficult time. Everything will be put to good use. Now we can get outside and get some outdoor therapy.”

“Wanted to say thanks so much for organizing the Phoenix Rising event for families who lost their homes in the fire. We were able to bring home some wonderful new coats and shoes. Many thanks for your support of our community! Lonni and Bryan.”

~ Lonni, Louisville, CO

“We were bowled over by the amazing shopping experience you provided yesterday. I cannot believe that in one free and enjoyable shopping session you replaced all of our family bike commute gear! We are full of gratitude.”

~ Robyn, Superior, CO

“Thank you for the outstanding Project Phoenix event on 2/12. We lost a house in Louisville. We were careful to select only a few things to make sure there was ample inventory for the participants. But the items we found are PERFECT. That was a generous and extremely helpful event for the community. We're very grateful.”
